Description
With 6 color plates besides a 4-page introductory description of the paintings, this portfolio is an early example of the Kotah Kalam.
The beginning of Rajasthani school took place in Mewar the reign of Amar Singh I (AD 1597-1622). During sixteenth to eighteenth centuries the court ateliers which gained popularity were Mewar itself, Marwar, Bundi, Kotah, Kishangarh, Bikaner and Jaipur - to name a few. The paintings included in this folio establishes the presence at the Kotah court of highly individualistic artists and the Mughal influence of the Aurangzeb period is quite apparent.
