The BRICS nations are at a unique stage of their socio-economic and political evolution. The debates that dominate the discourse within each of the five nations today, whether on traditional or non-traditional security, are linked to the challenges that confront the global community. These challenges offer multiple possibilities for cooperation.

The BRICS nations, therefore, need to address some fundamental issues that will define and shape the socio-economic and political landscape in the coming years, including:

1. How to strengthen institutions and their capacity to come up with robust response mechanisms;
2. Sharing development experiences and learning from each others’ best practices;
3. Expanding cooperation in technology and innovation.

These prominent issues have been addressed in this volume comprising papers presented at the 4th BRICS academic Forum, hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi.
