Sons of Babur is a Clever play-within-a-play which attempts to explore the meaning of nationhood and in particular, India. It traces the birth of a nation with the aid of a questioning and determined college student, Rudra, and his college friends who are fired with idealism and purpose.

Rudra goes back in time to revisitthe first Mughal Emperor, Babur, with an indisposed Bahadur Shah Zafar as his guide. Bahadur Shah Zafar takes Rudra through the blood-stained and eventful passages of history to unravel its workings and intrigues; sacrifices and disappointments. The play is replete with ideas and suggestions which are crucial in fragile times like ours.

Sons of Babur is a fine eclectic piece, the narrative traversing seamlessly between time panels, between fantasy and fact. The device used is drawing out important signposts of Moghul History through interaction with Bahadur Shah Zafar, whose name still strikes a chord with every Indian, makes the plays Dramatically compelling.
