Description

A manuscript by India's most eminent historian of his time was completed in 1940 but Rajput sensitivity on some aspect prevented its publication for 45 years.

Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II , the last ruler of the erstwhile Jaipur State, commissioned a history of his dynasty and the state. Sir Jadunath Sarkar, the most eminent Indian historian of the time, agreed to take up the task and completed the manuscript in 1939-40.

Rajput sensitivity towards incidents depicting Mughal-Rajput relations, and other obstacles, prevented publication, and the History was preserved over the decades by the Sawai Man Singh II Museum at the City Palace, Jaipur.

It is now close to forty-five years since Jadunath Sarkar completed his manuscript. Shri Raghubir Singh, a student of Sir Jadunath's and a historian in his own right, was entrusted with the editing and updating of the original manuscript. The result is a doubly valuable work of reference, based on material from the ancient archives of the Kachhawa House of Jaipur, and preserved almost intact for three and a half centuries.
