Description

I have toured the length the breadth of Punjab and found people amazingly simple in their eating habits. Yet, they do not compromise on food. . It is wholesome, nutritious and delicious to the hilt, with no frills attached. It is more pronounced in Amritsar, where eating food is gastronomic nirvana. They live to eat!

The Golden temple, the fulcrum of all the activities in and around Amritsar, has withstood invasions, political upheavals and many other minor catastrophes. It remains as enduring and dazzling. Harmindar Sahib looks like a tiny island surrounded by a pool of nectar.

Show me a place on earth where a lakh of pilgrims from all walks of life, satiate their hunger in an orderly manner. Tourist from all over the world must make a beeline to see and admire one of India's greatest temples.

In Patiala, walk a couple of hundred yards and you will confront a historic building of repute! The whole town smacks of historic buildings. Right from Qila Mubarak to Sheesh Mahal, it is a sight to behold. Patiala's fashion women in all its regal splendour and grace. It has been revived by a resplendent Kareena Kapoor in “Jab We Met”.

I always used to wonder how Maharajas lived in their abode. Now you can live like one in Neermana which used to house the Maharaja of Patiala. You can enjoy enjoy the royal comforts for a mere three thousand rupees!

Ludhiana's rapid industrial rise given it a sobriquet of Manchester of India. Tucked away in the end like a bonus is the recipe of cream chicken by the owner of world famous Chawla Chicken of Ludhiana.

To cap it all, there are recipes of Sarson Da Saag, Butter Chicken and Amritsari Fish being given by dhaba owners after keeping it under wrap for so many years. It is a treasure trove for the readers. And who can forget the two institutions, Luck and Lovely from Jalandhar.

This is a travelogue on Punjab. It is made possible due to the help extended to me by the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board.
