In India, kingdoms rose and fell in never- ending succession. Dig-Vijay ( Conquest of regions) was held up as a righteous ideal. The writer in this work has brought out the military ideas, methods of fortification , equipment's and arms used by ancient Indian Warriors.

Broadly speaking the material for the present study fall under two heads; Literary and Archaeological. Archaeological evidence consists mainly of the ruins of the old towns and forts, paintings, coins inscriptions. The literary source is the two epics - Ramayana and Mahabharata some Greek, Graeco-Roman and Chinese literature.
