Description
Ahmed Faraz – (1931-2008) Born, Syed Ahmed Shah, on January 14, 1931, in the small village of Nowshera near Pesahwar, Pakistan. The literary vein ran in the family, his father, Muhammad Shah Bark Kohati, was a leading poet of the traditional, folk genre. Subdequent to the publication of his first volume of poetry, “Tanha Tanha”, in 1950’s, to much critical acclaim, there followed incessant accolades. Along the way he mocked spineless autocratic governments, spent a few years under self imposed exile, and drawing inspiration from such strife wrote some of the most telling, incisive literary works during that era. Works that included, “Dekhtay Hain” (“Let Us See”) and “Mohasara” (“The Siege”). In all, he penned 13 volumes of Urdu poetry.
