Description
This illustrated catalogue accompanied The Living Religious and Cultural Traditions of Bhutan, an exhibition organized jointly by India’s Department of Culture and Bhutan’s National Commission for Cultural Affairs. Presented at the National Museum in New Delhi in 2001, the exhibition brought together religious, artistic and cultural objects representing Bhutan’s distinctive material heritage and living traditions.
The catalogue documents objects drawn from Bhutanese monasteries, fortresses and cultural institutions, including manuscripts, textiles, stone vessels, armour, dance costumes and metalwork. It also introduces aspects of Bhutanese Buddhist art, architecture, craftsmanship and ceremonial culture, placing the exhibited material within the country’s religious and historical setting.
As an official record of a significant India–Bhutan cultural exhibition, the volume is valuable for research collections concerned with Bhutan, Himalayan studies, Buddhist art, material culture, museum studies, religious studies and South Asian art history.
