Description

Shyamalendu Chatterjee, completing a brilliant academic career in Patna, joins a British commercial firm manufacturing fans and lamps and quickly rises to the position of a sales manager. Chatterjee is an ambitious man looking forward to becoming a director of Hindustan-Peters Ltd.

His wife Dolon’s younger sister Sudarshana comes to spend
a holiday in Calcutta and develops a secret admiration for Shyamalendu, which develops into a feeling quite serious. She is reciprocated by Chatterjee. He happens to face a crisis situation which involves a heavy penalty as well as a loss of prestige for him. Chatterjee at this point cleverly maneuvers a strike in the factory, which leads to a lockout. This helps him to avert the crisis.
