Description
According to mythology, raga Bhairav is considered to be one of the most ancient ragas. The raga is said to have emanated from Lord Shiva and is best performed in the morning. Owing to its simplistic structure, the raga has a mellifluous and calm texture. It is also a very flexible raga, finding use and adaptation in a variety of styles, be it pure khayal, dhrupad or even film music.
Raga Bhairav is also presented in its various forms or prakaar such as Ahir Bhairav, Bairagi Bhairav, Asa Bhairav, Anand Bhairav, Mand Bhairav and many more. Although of the same family or that, each of these magnificent ragas have their own distinct style. While Ahir Bhairav presents a melancholic mood, Anand Bhairav is majestic in its feel and Mand Bhairav is characterized by flights of notes that lend it a very soothing texture.
In this album, timeless legends Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Rajan & Sajan Mishra and Ustad Sultan Khan, present raga bhairav in all its forms.
