Description
Jesus is an Asian. But due to historical circumstances he comes back now to Asia as a European. Micheal Amaladoss is making an effort in this book to rediscover the Asian Jesus. He asks himself: If Christianity had spread towards Asia rather than Europe what names and symbols the Asians would have used to understand Jesus. The life, words and works of Jesus provide the raw material.
The images provide the prism through which they are looked at. He picks up nine images: the Sage, the Way, the Guru, the Avatar, the Satyagrahi, the Servant, the Compassionate, the Dancer, and the Pilgrim. The significance of these images in the Asian religo-cultural tradition is briefly pointed out.
This is not a book to be read through. Reading must lead to the contemplation of the images set in the context of the life of Christ. A certain familiarity with the story of Jesus in the Gospels is presupposed. Other believers who are inspired by Jesus may also contemplate these images profitably. Contemplation would lead to communion.
