Padmashree, Padmabhushan, Pt Kishan Maharaj is one of the finest Tabla players of our time. Born on the auspicious day of Sri Krishna Janmashtami in the year 1923, in the holy city of Varanasi, his career spans over half a century. Pt Kishan Maharaj at the tender age of eleven, began accompanying the principal artistes of the day.
Pt Kishan Maharaj’s ability to play across rhythms and produce complex calculations, particularly in tihai pattersn has made him one of the most respected and popular Tabla Players of his time. He has immense versatility with regard to playing any kind of accompaniment , be it with the Sitar, Sarod, Dhrupad, Dhamar or dance. He plays in his own distinctive style. The Tabla world follows him and his style.
PT HARIPRASAD CHAURASIA
Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia is known internationally as the greatest living master of Bansuri, the North Indian Bamboo flute. Panditji is among a few but growing classicists who have made a conscious effort to reach out and expand the audience for classical music.
Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia was born in Allahabad in 1938 into a non musical family. He started learning vocal music from Pt Rajaram at the age of 15. He has significantly expanded the expressive possibilities of North Indian classical flute through his masterful blowing technique. Apart from classical music, he has made a mark as Hindi Film music director along with PT Shivkumar Sharma forming a group called Shiv-Hari. He has also combined with various world musicians at experimental music, including the famous group Shakthi. Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia has won a number of prestigious awards including the Sangeet natak Academy (1984). Padmabhushan (1992) and Padma Vibhooshan (2000)
