Description
Dignity, courage and joy of living. Three good reasons for loving India which emerge form the daily encounters with men and women of all ages, of all walks of life, from meals and tea shared with them, from observing traditions and religious rituals that have come unscathed through the mists of time.
COMMENT
We were enthralled by the way Hindus worship water, and the holy waters of rivers in particular with which the faithful commune, in body and prayer, proffering puja to God.
An India which is the same for all. An India intimately shared. Of charm and enchantment. On one side of the coin, the fleeting India perceived by the traveler, on the other, day-to-day subsistence India, as lived by Savita and millions of women. For those whose devotion, courage and resolve to serve the cause of the down-and-out in city outskirts and small villages alike, India rhymes with suffering, but the country presents a facet of a quite different cut for thinker, man of letters, poet, ad for those who simply love and respect it.
Some of the accounts which follow are not ours. We have extracted them wholemeal from a notebook we bought in the streets of delhi. Most pages had been torn out and those that remained had suffered at the hands of time and water. The author left no name and the contents were an amalgam of descriptions, accounts and thoughts. .
