Description
Susruta, the Father of Surgery, wrote his Samhita (treatise) about 2500 years ago in Sanskrit at Varanasi, India, and classified it into six cantos. All its 186chapters are being brought out as Ancient Indian Surgery series in 10 volumes in a very authoritative, scientific, literal, research oriented, syntax interpretation using modern medical terminology along with original Sanskrit Text by a team of 20 dedicated Ayurvedic practitioners from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University.
This volume, 2nd in a series of 10 volumes, deals with 28-46 chapters Sutra-Sthana, of Susruta Samhita. It contains chapters on the good/bad omens, dreams, messengers and physical signs about the prognosis of wounds/patients, incurable diseases, and on military surgery; also on soils, collection of drugs, their preparations and storage, classification of drugs, details of some important and more useful drugs and their Ayurvedic pharmacology. It also has a chapter on the medicinal aspects of 10 liquid substances (water, milk, ghee, honey, wines, urines, etc) and a very long final chapter on all aspects of dietetics, including various types of foods, fruits, vegetables, meats and drinks etc.
