Description

The contents of Jap Ji Sahib were composed in poetic form by Guru Nanak in the 15th century. At that time the Punjabi language which has its roots and deep association with Sanskrit and later on with its diluted form of Hindi, was also in touch with Persian and Arabic culture. Many of the Persian and Arabic words in somewhat refined form were adopted by the Punjabi language of that period.

To convey the very essence of the teaching and the depth of the feelings of Guru Nanak, this book is being presented in four languages, with a view to make the readers aware of oriental culture. With this the English-speaking world can also easily absorb the essence of each word and each couplet with the spiritual reflection as projected by Guru Nanak.

Jap Ji Sahib has been translated by many scholars, both Indian (Hindus and Muslims) and Englishmen. They have used scholarly language and tried to find the corresponding meanings or counterparts through Sanskrit Kosh, or other such medium.
