Kalinga or the modern Orissa has been justly celebrated for the rich architectural and sculptural fare its chief centres at Bhubanesvar, Konarak and Puri display. This book is designed to present the whole architectural growth of these Kalinga temples, through the insight of the textual data from the two sources, Bhuvanapradipa and Shilpaprakasha, with the objective of unravelling the growth of building techniques, designs, arts and cultic developments witnessed in the process of erection of temples of certain specific forms, in the triple orders of the Rekha, Khakhara and Pida categories, their vicissitudes, regional transfusions, art embellishments through motifs, iconographic paradigms and surface ornamentations all so characteristic only of Kalinga temples.
This book is adequately illustrated through drawings and plates, and provided with tabular charts on certain specific aspects of the Kalinga order.
