Description

Here is a book of delight for all the Yatries to the holy shrines of the Himalayas.

There comes a time when:

Renouncing all worldly possessions severing all family ties, Hindus of the highest intellectual eminence and recognized social possession, will delight in making the Pilgrimages.
-Francis Younghusband

Some go for the Yatras alone, others prefer pilgrimages with the families and friends. Where to go, when to go and how to proceed, are some of the questions that every Yatri needs answered.

This book is a practical guide, and tells you how to plan the Yatra, what to carry, and what to see. Above all, the book relates the fascinating myths and legends of the Himalayan Shrines. May your Yatra be successful and rewarding.

Born of a highly educated family of Sialkot (Pakistan) MAN MOHAN SHARMA had a distinguished academic career. He is a graduate with honours in English as well as Urdu literatures. He is also an interpreter in Nepali.

He served as Commissioned Offer with the 5/8 Gorkha Rifles (The Sirmoor rifles). He commanded the Garhwal & Kumaon Scouts in Uttaranchal. During his army service spanning 30 years, he spent more than two decades in the Himalayan heights and valleys from subzero temperatures of Ladakh to the beautiful valleys of the eastern Himalayas. He has carried out an in-depth study of the Himalayas; the land and the people-and their extra ordinary gods and goddesses that dwell thee.

His first book Through the Valley of Gods (1976), attracted attention around the Globe and earned him the Fellowship of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS) London. He has also been conferred with the membership of the National Geographical Society, Washington. He is thus, an acknowledged authority on the Himalayan Uttrakhand culture.
