Description

HIV/AIDS is one of the most dreaded disease of our century. The epidemic is unique in its devastating impact on the social, economic and demographic underpinnings of development. South Asia has 4.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS, equivalent to a prevalence rate below 1 per cent of the adult population.

HIV infection has taken root in South Asia, and poses a threat to development and poverty alleviation efforts in the region. It is hoped that this book will contribute to a better understanding of the epidemic in the South Asia region and that governments, NGOs, policy-makers, anti-AIDS units and social workers will use the information it contains to guide them in better responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
