Description

Through 101 pictures and attractive maps, this CD takes you on a virtual tour of the City Palace. It identified important locations and explains their history and function. An evocative way to add to your memories of a city called Udaipur.

This easy to use CD is an ideal souvenir of your visit to Udaipur or a gift for someone special back home.

Authentic and medieval, ornate and simple, you are at a royal palace complex. One where the Royal Family of Mewar lived, thrived and grew for over 500 years! Imagine each successive generation, each Maharana of Mewar adding, modifying and embellishing to suit his own taste, needs and going by royal trends of his age. And to imagine that each generation has at its command the skills of architects, sculptors and artisans of the highest caliber. This is why when we stand before the City Palace, or wander through those amazing palaces, it is an uplifting, or wander through those amazing palaces, it is an uplifting, enriching and yes, bewildering, experience.

Ever since Maharana Udai Singh II laid the foundation-stones way back in 1559, the City Palace Complex has grown, evolved and continues to develop. Covering an area of over 20,000 square meters, the City Palace is in fact a series of palaces and chowks or courtyards.

The Mardana Mahal and the Zenana Mahal make up the City Palace Museum, as we experience it today. The late nineteenth century additions to the complex were Shambhu Niwas, where the present Maharana, Shri Arvind Singh Mewar resides; Shiv Niwas Palace and Fateh Prakash Palace which have both been converted into luxury hotels.
