Description

The present monograph on Revanta by Dr B N Sharma deals with the concept and iconography of this deity in detail. All the relevant literary and archaeological material bearing on Revanta has been taken into account. The author has, for the first time, given an exhaustive critical account of Revanta, touching on all possible aspects.

The illustrations have carefully been selected from ancient art relics representing Revanta in the north and south India. For a student of Hindu iconography, this publication is indispensable. The conclusions arrived at by the author are based on adequate documentation. The relevant Sanskrit texts have also been collected. Dr Sharma deserves our congratulations for this handy and useful publication.

The present monograph by Dr B N Sharma on Revanta, mythologically known as the Son of God Surya, is a welcome contribution in the field of Indian art. Among the minor Hindu deities Revanta occupies a somewhat prominent place of which no serious study was made so far. It is for the first time that a brilliant monograph detailing all the aspects of this God has been brought out, and for this Dr Sharma deserves our sincere compliments.
