Description
The Urdu Correspondence Course was launched on the eve of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Jamia Millia Islamic in 1970 in order to familiarize non-Urdu speakers in general and those not knowing the script in particular. Gradually the course gained a wide popularity.
Initially Urdu script through English and Hindi dwara Urdu were introduced as text books. The advent of distance education has set a process of evaluation and the text books alone would not suffice. Keeping the interest of readers in mind and the experience gained through interaction with the learners and also through their assignments, the learners’ books were also revised.
The book comprises lessons mostly tailored for the new learners. The body of each lesson contains an introduction of letter / letters according to group, explanatory notes, allographic shape/shapes of the letters at the initial, medial and final positions of a word exercises and difficult vocabulary with meanings.
Step-by-step instructions are available in separate lessons. Each lesson has specific learning objectives, so that the learner could know his/her progress at the end of the lesson. The task of the Centre is not over with the revision of text books alone. The Centre has initiated the development of the programmed material for learning Urdu through internet.
