Of them three amendments relate to Article 16 giving special protection to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes regarding their appointments to public services.

The first major achievement of independent India was the framing of a new Constitution, a Constitution based on the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

It was not an easy task for the Constitution Assembly which was entrusted with the task of framing a constitution for a vast country like India with 360 million people, with complex social, economic and political problems and a perplexing diversity of language, race, religion and culture.
