Description

This Special Issue of Amar Chitra Katha combines three titles centered on a popular character from Hindu mythology . The stories included in this volume are Hanuman, Hanuman to the Rescue, and Bheema and Hanuman.

Hanuman's unflinching devotion to Rama has made him the greatest of the Bhaktas (Devotees) ever known. His singular worship of Rama made him compassionate. It helped him to bring consolation to Sita who was pinning way, forlorn and lonely, in Ravan's Ashoka garden. It helped him to submit himself, years later, to the buoyant velour of Rama's children Luv and Kush.

The second title in this series is based on Krittivasa's Ramayana. Hanuman's exploits, particularly after he sets out to bring the herb Vishalya Karani from mount Gandhamadana to save Lakshmana, have been beautifully embellished in this Bengali version of the Ramayana.

In the third in this special issue is described the encounter between Hanuman and Bheema, the mighty Pandava prince.

Hanuman is the son of Vayu, the wind-god; and Bheema is the son of Kunti, born by the grace of Vayu. Thus, the two can be considered half-brothers.

Hanuman is described as a Chiranjivi, an immortal. This explains how the meeting between the two was possible, though Bheema was born many centuries later.
