Description

Garuda Purana is one of the Purans which are part of the Hindu body of texts known as Smriti. It is a Vaishnava Puran and its First Part contains a dialogue between Lord Vishnu and Garuda, the king of Birds. The Second half Contains details of life after, funeral rites and the Metaphysics of reincarnation, thus it is recited as a part Antyesti (Antim Sanskar) or funeral rites in Hinduism.

This Puran also deals with astronomy, medicine, grammar, and Gemstone structure and qualities.

In the 18 Mahapurans, Garuda Puran has important Significance. Its presiding deity is Lord Vishnu. It is held that Lord Vishnu is Prime amongst weapons, and Garuda Puran is prime Vishnu scripture.

Its study, bearing and a considered mulling gives a perpetual living facility, with a sure emancipated liberation from panicked rushing of the mundane world.
