Indranath Chowdhury holder of a British title and chairman of five big companies in Calcutta, has come to Darjeeling on a holiday.
The film revolves around the various events, involving the members of his family, that take place on the last afternoon of their stay.
Lavanya, Indranathan’s wife, is resigned to submitting to her husband’s will. Brother in law Jagadish is a widower & a bird fancier. Anima, their eldest daughter & her husband Sankar come together in an uneasy compromise in spite of a bitter marriage just for the sake of their daughter Tuklu. Son Anil goes on with his flirting nature.
Pranab Banerjee a brilliant young engineer just returned from England, falls in love with the younger daughter Monisha is at the point of proposing her. Monisha is apprehensive about this relationship, while she strikes a brief warm friendship with Ashoke. Ashoke is the nephew of Shivsankar, the once private tutor of Anil.
The rest of the events take place as the film proceeds to the end where Indranath is left an utterly confused man sensing the end of his domination. And it all happened in just one single afternoon.
